The CYSA U6 Program

The goals of the U6 soccer program are to develop an interest in soccer, introduce basic soccer skills and to have fun. All players in the U6 program are between 4 and 6 years old. U6 players are divided into two age groups - Under 5 and Under 6.

Under 5 — These are 4 year old players. Play is on Saturday mornings and consists of one hour of games to get the players comfortable with the soccer ball. Introduction of directional play and putting the ball in the net.

Under 6 — These are typically 5-6 year old players, with many in kindergarten or first grade. Play occurs on Saturday mornings for one and one-half hours. The first hour is spent on drills and skills which help to get the players comfortable with the soccer ball and game. The final half hour is spent playing a scrimmage against another team, on a smaller sized field.

Fields — The U6 teams play at South Row Field.

Team and/or Coach Requests — The U6 program is meant to be fun! Therefore, CYSA will attempt to accommodate parental requests for placement of Under 6 players with a particular coach or another player. However, due to the large number of players in the Under 6 program, CYSA can accommodate only one request per child. Requests should be indicated on the child’s registration form.

Coaches — CYSA relies on volunteers to coach teams. The U6 program is the fastest growing program within CYSA. There is a need for coaches for the Under 6 teams. This is a great time for parents to become involved in coaching. Training is provided for coaches prior to and during each season. CYSA welcomes new and experienced coaches into the U6 Program.

Equipment — CYSA provides a shirt for each child participating in the Intramural Program. Parents are expected to provide shorts, adequate footwear (sneakers or soccer cleats) and shin guards.

The CYSA Intramural Program

The goals of the Intramural soccer program are to develop soccer skills, to develop teamwork skills and to have fun. Players are placed into groups according to age.

Under 8 — These are typically 6-8 year old players, and teams are co-ed. Teams practice once each week for an hour, and games are on Saturdays. Game times vary.

Under 10 — These are typically 8-10 year old players, and teams are co-ed. Teams practice twice each week for an hour, and games are on Saturdays. Game times vary.

Fall Soccer — Games start the first Saturday after Labor Day, and run for 8 weeks.

Spring Soccer — Games are scheduled to start first Saturday of April (weather dependent), and run for 8 weeks.

Fields — The Intramural teams play on any of the following fields: Harrington, South Row, Murphy (located on Mill Rd.) or Highland (located on Highland St.). Prior to each season, CYSA’s field manager determines which age group will play at which location.

Team and/or Coach Requests — The intramural teams are meant to be fun! Therefore, CYSA will attempt to accommodate parental requests for placement with a particular coach or player. However, due to the large number of players in the intramural program, CYSA can accommodate only one request per child. Requests should be indicated on the child’s registration form.

Coaches — CYSA relies on volunteers to coach teams. The intramural program is the largest program within CYSA. Approximately 1,000 children play in the fall season and approximately 600 children play in the spring season. Therefore, the need for coaches is substantial. Training is provided for coaches prior to and during each season. CYSA welcomes new and experienced coaches into the Intramural Program.

Equipment — CYSA provides a shirt for each child participating in the Intramural Program. Parents are expected to provide shorts, adequate footwear (sneakers or soccer cleats) and shin guards.
